Some are momentary, and others shine forth through the night and reappear the next night, perhaps for many nights in a row. Many are classified within the categories of meteors, asteroids or comets. But you say, what are they? Let's take a closer look at them. So, fasten your seatbelts. We're off to see these wonders of the sky.

August 5, 2025All Things Alaska! with James Grogan, CEO Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry
There are over 2000 exhibits ranging from DC 123 aircraft to WWII 1/2 track vehicles. Multiple vehicles. Multiple tractors, 6 locomotives, and 20 railcars including the Centennial cars that took troops toward the Aleutian Islands (he will explain). There is more: 20 acres of aircraft, there is trains, automobiles. There is a 9,500-indoor-exhibit hall with cars from 1917 and on. Mining tools! 1932 Colony Barn. And yes, they just acquired a 47' Fin Whale which they are processing to articulate! Staff is working on a new expansion for Natural History. All things Alaska!

Shaquil was born and raised on the island of Palua (a country in the Micronesia subregion of Oceania in the western Pacific Ocean). Eventually, due to limited opportunities, he moved to Alaska with his family. Tragedy struck. He will tell you his story. Blindness, and no legs, have not stopped this young man from (age 30) mastering technology - smart phones and computers. He loves music - he is both singing and playing several instruments - keyboard, drums, ukulele. He lives with passion, and purpose. Will inspire you!!

Part 2. He will show a two-part PBS film documentary - The Harriman Alaska Expedition Retraced - which retraces the historic route of railroad baron Edward H. Harriman's ambitious journey in 1899. The 2001 Expedition follows the 1899 route and documents the many changes over the past 100 years from Southeast Alaska to the Bering Strait. This is a must-see program to "know and see Alaska" with historic and present-day content.

Mike will talk about spending five weeks teaching in Radowell, Ukraine in the Zhytomyr Province during October / November winter 2024. His students asked why he was teaching at 81 years of age; he answered that life begins at 81. He spent two months a year over a five-year period in Russia playing grandfather for his daughter's children. Mike is a 60-year Alaskan.
